The Books translator

Carmen Olaeta Scholis was born in California and began to learn Spanish in high school. She attended Stanford University where she studied Spanish literature under Dr. Isabel Scheville and Fernando Diaz-Plaja, among others. After a hiatus she continued her studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Civilization. There she met Lucrecia Cambas, one of her professors who later became a very close friend. In 1973 Ms Scholis collaborated with William Witherup in the publication of I Go Dreaming Roads, a selection of poems by Antonio Machado translated into English. She has traveled extensively in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Spain. Currently she continues to teach Spanish, her life-long career, and also serves as Outreach Coordinator for the Monterey Bay Foreign Language Project at California State University, Monterey Bay.
